Who will play who for a place in Mid Canterbury Netball’s ACL Premier 1 grand final for 2025 has been decided.
Heading into the final games of the championship round the top four were already decided, it was just a matter of who played who in this week’s semi-finals.
Celtic Auric Electrical A and Mt Somers Victory Lime A went into the final round last week tied at the top of the table, and played each other, with Celtic’s 54-47 win securing them top spot, while the match between College A and Hampstead Ray White A determined who finished third. It was a tough battle, but in the end College A just scraped in by three, 55-52.
Meanwhile, Methven Wareings produced one of their stronger performances of the season to beat College B 71-40, ahead of the two teams playing again this week in the play-off for fifth.
The feature games of the coming week will be the semi-finals, with Celtic Auric Electrical A playing the team they beat in last year’s final, Hampstead Ray White A, in the last game of the night at 7.45pm, and Mt Somers Victory Lime A playing College A at 7.20pm.
In ACL Premier 2, an intense championship round where no result was a given, finished with Allenton Brady’s Painting A on the top of the table and facing Hampstead Ray White B in the semis, while the two versus three semi-final will be Rakaia ProShear against Methven EuroAgri.
It all came down to the final games of the round where everyone was still in with a shot, and after a couple of weeks of multiple games being decided by a single goal, things were tight once again. Rakaia ProShear just held on to beat Southern Canterbury Chiropractic 38-36, and Methven EuroAgri’s strong run home continued with a 30-27 win over Hampstead Ray White B, while Allenton A beat Morrison Agri Celtic B 55-34.
After some incredibly close losses which meant they just missed out on semis, Southern Canterbury Chiropractic and Morrison Agri Celtic B will play off for fifth.
In ACL Premier 3, College Senior Reserve finished top of the table and will play Hampstead Ray White U18 in the semis, while the other will be fought out between Rakaia Seed Cleaning and United KFC A, and Methven Shearmac and Allenton B will play off for fifth.
That all came down to results on the final night of the championship round, too, where United KFC had a strong 51-22 win over Allenton B, Rakaia Seed Cleaning beat Methven Shearmac 31-20, and College Senior Reserve beat Hampstead Ray White U18 Development 25-20.
