Mid Canterbury’s senior A rep team to try and win back the coveted Hanan Shield has been named.

ACL Premier 1 frontrunners Celtic Auric Electrical A contribute the biggest number of players to the side, with six – Rebecca Cochrane, Anna Holland, Olivia Hutchinson, Olivia McLennan, Shannon Stockdale and Gina Woodhouse – while the squad also features three from Methven, two from Hampstead and one from Southern.

The side will this year be coached by Cindy Meadows, who also coaches the Hampstead Ray White A side in the ACL Premier competition.

It features some of Mid Canterbury Netball’s strongest shooting talent, with Leanne Clemens (Methven), Amelia Holmes (Hampstead), Olivia McLennan (Celtic) and Shannon Vidler (Southern) to provide Meadows with plenty of options. But she will also be spoiled for choice in the mid-court with speed and flair aplenty, and has a defensive line up full of grit and determination.

The team’s first challenge will come on August 7 when they travel to Waimate to try and win back the Hanan Shield against South Canterbury and North Otago. Mid Canterbury won the Hanan Shield in 2020, but South Canterbury took it home in 2021.

They will then play at the South Island Senior Championships in Timaru from September 2-4.

Mid Canterbury Netball congratulates all players and wishes them, and coach Cindy, all the best for the representative season ahead!

The team is: Caitlin Adlam (Methven), Leanne Clemens (Methven), Rebecca Cochrane (Celtic), Anna Holland (Celtic), Amelia Holmes (Hampstead), Olivia Hutchinson (Celtic), Olivia McLennan (Celtic), Vicki Pluck (Methven), Libby Ruddenklau (Hampstead), Shannon Stockdale (Celtic), Shannon Vidler (Southern), Gina Woodhouse (Celtic). Non-travelling reserves: Linda Kelsall (Hampstead), Teigan Parish (Southern).
