It was well and truly Hampstead’s day when Mid Canterbury Netball’s junior finals took to the court on Saturday (August 7).
All three finals of the Ashburton New World Junior Competition featured Hampstead teams taking on Allenton teams, and in all three it was the Hampstead teams that came out on top.
In the top junior grade - junior senior A - Hampstead Speights Ale House Junior A took on Allenton A and came away with the win 41-17, while the junior senior B final saw Hampstead Speights Ale House Junior B taking on the Allenton Crusaders, with the blue and golds winning 29-10.
The intermediate A final was won by Hampstead Speights Ale House Junior C, beating the Allenton Diamonds 18-5, while the last few weeks of intermediate B was a round robin which was taken out by Hampstead Speights Ale House Junior Blue.
Two special trophies on offer were also taken out by Hampstead teams, with the Jan Joyce Trophy for the team with the least goals scored against them during the season being Hampstead Speights Ale House Junior C, and the McIntosh/Behrnes Cup for the team with the highest goal average going to Hampstead Speights Ale House Junior A.
A big morning of junior finals at the EA Networks Centre was then followed by a big afternoon of senior finals.
Mid Canterbury Netball’s senior Saturday afternoon competition features secondary school teams, and unlike the morning competition the honours were shared around three different clubs.
The big final, the KFC Senior grade final, was fought out between Ashburton College Year 9A and Methven Humm Engineering, with the young College side taking it out 30-26.
In the KFC Senior Reserve final, Rakaia Seed Cleaning took it out 42-22 over Methven Clemens Seed, while the Bellissimo 2nd grade final between Methven Trucking and Ashburton College U15 went the way of the Methven side 25-14.
Prizegivings followed both the junior and senior finals, where presentations were also made to umpires who were allocated finals on finals day, and umpires who had achieved their pre-centre, or centre umpiring badge during the season.
Those who earned their centre badge were Leah Reid, Ciara Ross, Bella Casey-Solly, Anna Tuamoheloa and Hannah Digby, while those who earned their pre-centre were Adasyin McLean, Alice Jackson, Ally Thomas, Amelia Mitchell, Bronte Brown, Charlotte Bota, Ella Bradley, Emma Ledingham, Emma Lowry, Jess Heaven, Lucy Pearce, Lulu Kilworth, Makenze Boardman, Micaela Gomez, Milla Overend, Mischka van Staden, Stacey Hooper, Sylvie Lakin, Casey Cousins, Ruby Patterson, Olivia McCambridge and Shelley Cossey.
