1 AFFILIATED CLUB RESPONSIBILITIES
All affiliated clubs are required to hold an Annual General Meeting no later than 28 February of each year.
b) i) Player registration accounts shall be issued to clubs from the Centre by 31 May in each year. Payment shall be due by 30 June in that same year.
ii) Accounts for club players registered after the beginning of each season (late registration accounts) shall be issued to clubs from the Centre by 31 August of that year. These are required to be paid by 20 September in the same year.
iii) Registration payments outstanding as at 1 July and/or late registration payments as at 21 September may be increased by 15% at the discretion of the Management Board.
c) A copy of Club Financial Accounts is to be forwarded to the Management Board by 31 March in each year.
d) Please ensure your players are notified of umpiring responsibilities. [see clause 6 (a)].
e) Clubs must be aware of player registration and umpire penalty clauses [4 (a) and (b) and 5 (b)]
f) Clubs are required to carry out duty on a rostered basis. Please ensure Club Members are advised of this responsibility.
g) All correspondence to the Management Board must be signed by the Club’s Secretary.
2 COMPETITION FORMAT
§ 4 points for a win
§ 2 points for a draw
§ 1 point for a loss of 3 goals or less
Playoffs
In the event of a tie in the semi-finals and finals, the following shall apply:
i) There shall be a two minute interval at the end of full time
ii) Extra time of two (2) x five (5) minute halves each way will be played
iii) Teams change ends and the game is restarted by the team entitled to the next Centre Pass
iv) Teams change ends at half time without an interval
v) The Centre Pass is taken by the team entitled to the next Centre Pass
vi) In the event of a tie remaining at the end of extra time, play will continue until one team has a two (2) goal advantage
3 DEFAULTS
i) Default notification should be received, in the first instance, by the Centre Administrator prior to Friday, 7:00 pm or earlier if possible.
ii) In the event of unexpected circumstances a default may be accepted after this time. (Note: Where a competition game is being held at a time other than a Saturday the same notification timeframe will apply).
iii) If the Administrator is unavailable notification must be made to a Management Board member.
iv) the Centre Administrator will advise the opposing club/team and the umpires.
v) the defaulting team will forfeit its points/goals
4 DEFERRED GAMES
a) When two or more players from one club team are required to travel with a Mid Canterbury Netball representative team on a Mid Canterbury Netball competition day, a deferred game may be granted
b) When a coach/manager/umpire is appointed to Mid Canterbury Netball representative fixtures a deferred game may be granted
c) Deferred games will be played on a Monday or Tuesday night after the scheduled competition game. Mid Canterbury Netball Management Board/Competition Committee have the right to schedule deferred games at other times according to the needs of the competition
5 GRADING
a) i) At the start of each season clubs/schools may enter their teams into the grade/s which they consider appropriate. However, the Management Board/Competition Committee shall make the final decision on the entry grade for any grading draw/s, after considering recommendations from the Competition Committee.
(ii) At the time of registration Clubs/schools must ensure players are registered in their correct team for that season (not for a team the player may be ‘filling in’ for).
(iii) The Management Board/Competition Committee shall determine which grade of its competition each team shall play in, after considering recommendations from the Competition Committee.
b) The number of teams in each grade shall be determined annually by the Management Board/Competition Committee.
c) Where a club/school has more than one team competing in the same grade the Management Board/Competition Committee shall determine the seedings of these teams within that grade. These seedings apply to the requirements of (e) below.
d) No player shall play in a lower team than that in which the player has been registered [see Registration of Players 9 (a) and Penalties 5 (a) i) and ii)].
e) A player who plays more than four (4) games in a higher team or grade than that in which the player is graded shall become ineligible to play in the original team or any other lower team or grade. (ie: on the fifth game a player must remain in that higher ranked team)
f) In relation to (e) above, a player entering the game during the second half of a forty minute game or the
fourth quarter of an hour long game shall not be deemed to have played a full game.
g) When a player enters the game during any quarter the scorecard MUST indicate which quarters have been played. If the substitution information on the scorecard is not completed the player will be deemed to have played a full game
h) Grades from Senior Reserve A and above may be required to play their competition games in wet weather but not where extreme conditions apply.
6 PENALTIES
a) Should a player play in a lower team than that in which the player is registered and graded -
i) the team in which the player played shall lose that game’s goals scored for and any points gained
ii) the opposing team is not awarded the forfeited points
b) If an umpire, in senior netball, who is also a senior player fails to comply with clause 6 (d) that player will be suspended from playing one senior club game on a date to be determined by the Management Board.
c) If an umpire at junior netball fails to turn up to umpire for his/her junior club, the club will be fined $30 for each game the umpire fails to umpire.
7 PLAYERS – UMPIRING RESPONSIBILITIES
a) All Premier, Senior A, Senior B and Senior Reserve A players will be required to umpire.
b) If a replacement is required she is to be replaced by a player from the same team.
c) A player from the grades outlined in (a) above who coaches another team is exempt, if they choose, from the requirement to umpire. This must be advised on the team registration form.
d) A player who is unable to umpire must find a suitable substitute from the same team who must then be approved by the Administrator or, on a Saturday, the Office Supervisor who will notify the Duty Umpire. This substitution must be arranged prior to the completion of the preceding round. If a player fails to comply with these conditions see clause 5 (b).
e) Junior Clubs must supply one umpire (Y8 and above) for every team (excluding Future Ferns) entered in Junior Netball. An umpire who is unable to umpire must find a suitable substitute from his/her Club who must then be approved by the Administrator, or on a Saturday the Office Supervisor who will notify the Duty Umpire. This substitution must be arranged prior to the completion of the preceding round. If an umpire fails to comply with these conditions see clause 5 (c).
8 PLAYING TIMES
a) Clubs may request specific playing times. Requests must be made in writing, at the time of team entries. (Refer 1 (g)
b) An effort will be made to accommodate requests but there are no assurances that a request can be met on every occasion or for every Saturday.
9 PROTEST
a) Any protest arising from the conduct of a game must be forwarded in writing to the Centre Administrator. (Refer 1 (g)
b) The protest must be received, or postmarked, not later than three days after the event in question.
c) The protest shall be addressed as soon as is practicable by the Management Board.
f) The parties involved shall be consulted further if additional information is required.
10 REGISTRATION OF PLAYERS
a) Team Registration Forms must be received by the Administrator at the same time as team entries. (Note: For Registration to be accepted, forms must be fully completed and signed by each individual player)
b) Each Team Registration Form must contain the names of at least seven players.
c) Additional registration becomes automatic once a player’s name appears on the score card. It is most
important that a player’s first and surnames are entered in full on the score card (to avoid confusion with players of similar names).
d) A late registration player may be registered in a grade lower than the one first played in. Indicate on the team card which grade the player is to be registered in.
e) A full registration fee will charged after a player’s fourth game (ie – on their fifth game). Otherwise, a fee set annually will be charged per game. (Refer 4 (f)
f) To be eligible to play in end of season Quarter Finals/Semi Finals and Finals a player must have played a minimum of three full games for that Club during the season.
g) If a fully registered player is unable to continue playing (due to injury, illness or other legitimate reasons) prior to playing the fifth game a refund may be considered. Please apply in writing to the Management Board. (Refer 1 (g)
h) Primary/Intermediate school aged (Junior) players may play in the Senior Competition. Indicate on Registration Form/card with a (J).
Where a Junior player –
i) players in the Senior Competition (J) must be shown on the score card.
ii) is used as a ‘stand-in’ player there will be no registration fee charged until after the player’s fourth game, at which time a fee equaling the difference between the Mid Canterbury junior and senior subscription will be charged.
iii) chooses to play in both the senior and junior competitions this player will be subject to the subscriptions charged in each competition.
iv) plays only in the senior competition, this player shall be subject to the appropriate senior subscription [see Representative Players/Teams, clause 10 (j) ].
11 REPRESENTATIVE PLAYERS/TEAMS
a) Non affiliated players shall not be eligible for selection in Mid Canterbury Netball Centre representative teams
b) If a player has an outstanding account from a previous year’s representative season, she shall not be eligible for selection in Mid Canterbury Netball Centre representative teams
c) Players selected for representative teams are expected to be available for play as required by team management personnel. Advice of non-availability for any practice or fixture must be registered as early as possible to allow for an appropriate decision to be made.
d) Except where open trials are held selectors/coaches shall name trialists. Each club also has the right to nominate trialists additional to those named. These nominations shall be made in writing, within 48 hours of trialists’ names being published, to the Management Board who will forward names to selectors for inclusion in trials.
e) Mid Canterbury representative teams shall consist of a maximum of ten players unless exceptional circumstances apply and permission is obtained from the Management Board.
f) Representative trialists and/or representative teams are to be tabled with the President prior to any publication.
g) Should a named representative player become unavailable her replacement, if not one of the original trialists, shall be approved by the Management Board. This replacement player shall be selected by the coach in consultation with the selectors.
h) The following priority order shall influence the selection of Mid Canterbury Representative Teams -
- U19
- U17
- Mid Canterbury A
- Under 15
- Junior A
- Junior B
- Junior Y7
A decision shall be made annually, dependent on player availability, as to the number and level of Mid Canterbury Representative/Development Teams.
i) Decision shall be made annually as to the number of Mid Canterbury Development teams
j) Ages for representative players shall be as at 1 January of the current season.
k) Senior players have the opportunity to trial for Canterbury Regional teams and are encouraged to do so. Conversely, players from outside of Mid Canterbury may trial for our teams.
l) In the event that Mid Canterbury Netball, in any one year, does not field a specific level team, senior or age group, players may choose to trial for Representative teams outside of Mid Canterbury Netball. In this instance prior approval must be obtained from the Management Board. These players may be eligible for financial support from Mid Canterbury Netball.
m) Players who are at Primary/Intermediate Schools, up to and including Year 8 shall be eligible only for Junior Representative Teams. This includes players who play in the Senior Competition. Junior A & B players shall be selected from Y7 and Y8 players and Junior Y7 players shall be selected from Y7 players.
12 TRANSFER
a) Players shall not be granted transfer from one club to another during the season (unless particularly extenuating circumstances apply and the transfer is authorised by the Management Board).
b) Should a player play for more than one Mid Canterbury Netball affiliated club in any one season the penalty as outlined in Penalties 5 (a) i) and ii) shall be applied.
c) A school team player leaving school during a season may continue to play for the school or transfer to another club.
9 There are no transfer regulations on players changing clubs between the end of one season and the start of another.
13 TROPHIES
Senior Competition
a) Grade Trophies:

- Premier (runner-up) - Mid Canterbury Netball cup (Final Round)
- Senior A - Todds Fashions Trophy (Final Round)
- Senior B - ALT Trophy (Final Round)
- Senior Reserve A - Senior Reserve Cup (Final Round)
- Senior A - Flaherty Trophy
- Senior B - Penman Trophy
- Senior Reserve A - Senior Reserve Cup
Where Premier, Senior A, Senior B or Senior Reserve A Grades play more than two rounds in any one season certificates may be awarded for the early round/s. It should be noted that not all grades will necessarily operate in any one given year.

over the competition season, all grades eligible.
d) Borough Council Centennial Plaque - team with the highest goal average over all grades, grading days.
e) Pat Craig Trophy awarded annually at the Annual General Meeting to the Senior Club
who has shown outstanding administrative abilities in all areas
throughout the preceding year.
f) Elsie Adlam Memorial Trophy - awarded annually at the Annual General Meeting for individual
administrative excellence within Mid Canterbury Netball.
g) Anstiss Paper Plus cup awarded annually at the annual General Meeting to the Junior club who has shown outstanding administrative abilities in all areas throughout the preceding year.
h) Marene Cuneen Trophy - awarded to a valued Premier Grade netball player who may also display coaching capabilities and who enhances the criteria of a high level of achievement, dedication to netball, fairplay and sportsmanship, a desire to further their knowledge of netball, commitment to Mid Canterbury Netball, an understanding of netball ethics and be a positive role model
ih) McTigue Cup - awarded to an Age Group Representative Team player who displays a high level of skill and commitment to the game and consistent performance at that level throughout the representative season, enthusiasm for the game, positive sportsmanship both on and off the court, commitment to and co-operation with team members
j) Cousins Cup - awarded to an A Team Representative player who displays enthusiasm for the game, a high level of skill and commitment to the game and consistent performance at that level throughout the representative season, positive sportsmanship both on and off the court, commitment to and co-operation with team members, positive ambassador for Mid Canterbury Netball
k) Old Collegians Cup awarded to a Coach in Mid Canterbury Netball Senior Competition who displays knowledge, a high level of skill and commitment to the game and is a positive ambassador for Mid Canterbury netball
l) Leech Cup awarded to the umpire who has achieved at NNZ Regional and/or NZ level, who is committed to netball umpiring, willing to attend umpire sessions to further knowledge of rules/umpire requirements and wants to gain NNZ qualifications/attend NNZ appointed tournaments
m) Leath Cup awarded to the umpire who has achieved at NNZ Centre Level, who is committed to netball umpiring, willing to attend umpire sessions to further knowledge of rules/umpire requirements and wants to gain NNZ qualifications
n) Sport Mid Canterbury Volunteer awarded annually at the Annual General Meeting to a member who gives voluntary time to Mid Canterbury Netball throughout the preceding year.
Junior Competition
a) Grade Trophies:
- Senior A - Ashburton Netball Association Shield
- Senior B - Mid Canterbury Netball Trophy
- Intermediate A - Flaherty Trophy
- Intermediate B - ANA Intermediate B Cup

e) Donalda Mitchell Trophy - Umpiring excellence award
f) Lotto Paper Plus Cup - to the club which has shown administrative excellence throughout the season.
