UPCOMING EVENTS Netball New Zealand Council meeting will be held in Christchurch from 19-20 February 2011. Rosemary Adlam, Gail Benseman, Angela Pierce and Audrey Leath will attend this meeting.
MCN PRE-SEASON TOURNAMENT This is for 2010 Premier and Senior A teams. Will run for 3 weeks commencing 15 March 2011. Entries to be in no later than 25 February 2011.
UMPIRES - fitness testing (practice session Monday 7 February with final testing Monday 14 February. Both sessions at netball courts at 5.30pm.

CONGRATULATIONS to Rosemary Adlam on being presented with Mid Canterbury Netball Life Membership Award at the AGM in November. This award was received by Rosemary for the work she has done for Netball in Mid Canterbury over the last 31 years. |
COACHING INFORMATION The Mid Canterbury’s Got Talent (MCGT) programme will commence again on 24 January with an umpiring session from 7-9.30pm and 7 February for a combined session 6.30-8.30pm. At this session all MCGT players will sit the umpire theory test.
A Y9 Development squad will be selected in February. This programme will commence mid-March. Coaching dates for 2011 Tuesday 22 March 2011 My little team & me (with Sue Harris) Tuesday 5 April 2011 Coaching Module (TBA) with Sue Harris Thursday 5 May 2011 Coaching Module (TBA) with Sue Harris PRACTICE SESSION IDEAS – Goal Defence Intercepting drills where players learn to make judgments about which passes they can/cannot intercept. Aerobic training – running, swimming, cycling etc Restrictive marking drills and all phases of 1 on 1 defence Ø Zero phase – the readiness and preparation of the defender on the attacker Ø 1st phase – marking opponent closely to contest or restrict their opponent from receiving a pass Ø 2nd phase – marking over the ball at 0.9m or dropping into space to limit passing options Ø 3rd phase – working to restrict or dictate that attacking player’s next movement
START DATES FOR 2011 BSHL Mid Canterbury Netball Senior Competition commences Saturday 9 April 2011. This includes Senior Reserve C grade. Paper Plus Ashburton Mid Canterbury Netball Junior Competition commences Saturday 9 April 2011. (This includes Future Ferns) Ashburton Guardian Young Ferns (netties) and Fun Ferns commences Friday 6 May 2011.
